Gamete Donor Services

Most Gamete Banks incorporate some amount of genetic testing into their routine donor screening. However, the specific conditions tested for will vary according to the specific bank. Additionally, Gamete Banks typically make some information available about a donor’s medical and family history, whether that be simply a form that the donor filled out or a detailed history taken by a medical professional. Having a thorough review and interpretation of the donor’s genetic testing results, along with medical and family history is crucial to the understanding of potential risks to the couple’s offspring.

Gamete donor services include screening of egg donors, sperm donors, and embryo donations. Service may include:

  • Comprehensive evaluation of a three-generation family history
  • Construction of family tree diagram
  • Review of genetic testing records and/or recommendations of appropriate genetic testing
  • Match evaluation of the donor’s genetic history alongside that of the intended parent’s (or, in the case of embryo donation evaluation of both donor’s genetic histories).
